Baby Heart Monitors – Actually Hearing Your Unborn Baby's Heartbeat is a Thrilling Thing

One of the things that every mother-to-be really wants to hear and loves hearing is her unborn child's heartbeat while the baby is still in her womb. This, along with not wanting to have to wait until her next OB / GYN pre-natal appointment, is the main reason that portable at-home use baby heart monitors have become such an essential item for mothers-to-be to have. The thing that many of you out there might not know is that these monitors are pretty easy to use.

How many times have you wished that you had a way to keep track of your baby's heartbeat between your pre-natal appointments? This is another part of the reason that at-home use baby heart monitors have been created in the first place. The one thing that you are going to need to get the hang of is learning how to find the baby's heartbeat. This is something that will take a bit of time to figure out how to master yet you can do it easily once you start "practicing" a bit. The reason that practicing has been put in quotations marks is that you are actually practicing your technique every time you use the baby heart monitor.

The first thing that you need to know about is that you will need to put a little bit of ultrasound gel of your stomach / abdomen the same as they do in the doctor's office. This is the medium that helps you not only pick up the sounds of your baby's heartbeat using baby heart monitors. The ultrasound gel will also make it much easier to slide and move the sensor head around easily on your abdomen.

It might take you a little while at first to even find where your baby happens to be in your womb. This is something that will get easier over time and with practice. You are going to need to take something into account when using any of the at-home portable baby heart monitors currently sold. The fact that you are not going to be able to pick up on your baby's heartbeat anytime before the end of your 4th month – between 10 and 12 weeks – of pregnancy with any of the portable baby heart monitors. They simply are not as sophisticated or sensitive as those that your doctor uses. They are not meant to be either.

One of the most exciting things about having and using baby heart monitors at home is that you can not only hear your baby's heart beating anytime you please, but you can also keep track of his / her growth and development and be alerted of any potential cardiac / health problems that may arise between pre-natal doctor's visits. This is something that may indeed create peace of mind within you just by knowing that you have a toll readily available to you any time you want or need it. All of this is definitely good news for many expectant mothers during pregnancy. It also does not matter whether this is going to be your first child or not.
