Different Types of Baby Monitors

Congratulations! You are now at the stage where you need all that fancy equipment and furniture for your little bundle of joy. There are many essential things that need to be bought and baby monitors are one of the most important. The following types of monitors accomplish the same job in slightly different ways, which is being able to transmit the sounds or movements that your baby is making. By using a baby monitor, you will be able to sleep soundly, knowing that you will hear your baby if he needs you.

Of the baby monitors out there, there are wired and wireless types. The wireless type is more convenient in many ways. The individual units are usually battery-powered, therefore enabling you the flexibility to use the units anywhere in the home. Wireless baby monitors use one of two types of technology. Analog monitors are an earlier version which are much more prone to interference of signals. Most people find that the newer digital (DECT) types are more reliable.

Many parents use the audio baby monitor. These battery-powered monitors are relatively inexpensive and are generally made up of a transmitter and receiver units. When the baby starts to cry or shows signs of waking up, the parent or carer can hear it through the receiver units. These monitors are a great way to listen to the baby’s activity.

The video baby monitors are monitoring devices that watch over your baby, using video and images. This type of monitor can only be used in the same room as the baby. In general, there is audio capability on the transmitter in the baby’s room. There is a camera which works like a webcam; It captures images, which get sent to the receiver unit. Parents or carers can view them there. Some of these monitors can be hooked up to the computer so the images can watched later on.

The baby heart monitor, also known as a Fetal Doppler, can monitor the baby’s heartbeat. Sound waves are used to detect the sound of the infant’s cardio activity. The listener can hear the sound waves, which bounce off of the baby’s heart, through a speaker or earphones attached to the monitor.

The movement sensor baby monitor detects movement of the baby. When the baby stops moving for a period of time the unit will send an alert indicating that you should check to make sure that your baby is okay.

Have fun picking out your new baby monitor!
