It’s such an excitement when a little bundle of joy is on the way. Parents would really go an extra step further to ensure that everything is perfect when the baby arrives — from the baby’s clothes, things, and of course, the little one’s room. New parents often panic when they get overwhelmed with the tons of products for the baby’s nursery. Often, they even get confused with what to buy given the numerous brands (e.g. they can’t decide which crib and crib mattress to buy since there are tons of products like the Seal Soybean Foam Core Crib Mattress and Colgate Classica I Foam Crib Mattress, among many other products).
Quite honestly, shopping for anything in general is very difficult especially if you don’t exactly know what you need. As the rule of thumb in smart shopping goes, know what you want first and proceed from there. So, what do you really need in the nursery? Here are the basics:
Crib and Beddings
Surely the most important element is the crib and the bedding. When out shopping for these, make sure you get those that are hypo-allergenic. Make sure that they are also the right size for both the room or area, and the baby.
Babies need to have their daily dose of the morning sunshine. However, you should also remember that they have very sensitive eyes given their age. Thus, the nursery should have window shades or curtains so you can regulate the lighting of the room.
Everything has to be organized so that it will be easy to look for anything that you need. Get appropriate lockers, shelves, and organizers for the nursery. Anything glass is obviously a no-no for safety reasons.
Make sure you have a trash bin, one that has a lid on it. You surely wouldn’t want the whole room to be smelling like dirty diapers all of the time.
Be sure to have a night light in the nursery so you can easily look over and attend to your little one even when it’s late at night.
In case you’re not sleeping in the same room with the child, a
Make the nursery look as cozy as possible for a little baby. Decorate the room appropriately — have letters of the alphabet, stars, and whatever baby designs in it. Of course, you should also choose the appropriate color and theme.
These are just a couple of the basic things that the baby’s room should have. Of course, you also have the option to add a couch, a rocking chair, and many other fixtures. Again, there is no fixed set of rules on how you should setup your baby’s room. The rule of thumb is just to have the appropriate basics and you’re good to go.
